Often in our personal life or the workplace, we tend to be ‘the rescuer’ or adopt ‘the superhero syndrome’. This may create a dependence that limits people from developing skills and navigate through life’s personal and professional challenges.
To foster healthier relationships in our environments one needs to develop awareness about setting boundaries through self-reflection communicated clearly and respectfully. This will help provide support, empower people, foster resilience, in the long-term- encourage self-sufficiency, as well as protect one’s own physical, mental & emotional well-being.
When you set boundaries, expect some people to get upset. These are the ones who benefited from you not having any.
Your boundaries may feel like a betrayal to those who have found comfort in your self-sacrifice.
Identify your boundaries, and be self-aware. Communicate clearly and stay consistent. Prioritise and practice self-care.
