DEPRESSION

Depression is a common and potentially life-threatening human experience that deserves to be treated seriously and with compassion. Each person’s experience of depression is unique, as are the underlying reasons for it. It can be argued that depression is best understood as an experience rather than a disease. This experience manifests as a form of distress, with varying depths and contributing events or circumstances that can be life-altering or threatening.

Common symptoms of depression include feelings of worthlessness, shame, or dread, physical and mental lethargy, exhaustion, disturbed sleep, changes in appetite, a lack of connection (such as loneliness or isolation), changes in routine and activity, anger, frustration, a sense of meaninglessness, suicidal thoughts, and hopelessness. Depression exists on a continuum, with mood swings and fluctuations that can change from day to day or even hour to hour.

There are different forms of depression, such as antenatal depression during pregnancy, postnatal depression, and seasonal affective disorder (SAD) triggered by low levels of light in winter. Some individuals may exhibit mania (intense elation) or hypomania, extreme mood swings associated with bipolar disorder, including spending sprees or excessive eating. Depression often follows major life events, such as the loss of a loved one or job, although this is not true for everyone. Sometimes, it may seem as if there is no explanation for the onset of depression; it simply happens. In such cases, there may not be a single cause but rather a vicious cycle that perpetuates low mood and a feeling of being stuck.

Consequently, individuals may disengage from activities they once enjoyed, avoid socializing, neglect exercise, or struggle with a sense of purpose, often referred to as “depression out of the blue.” Depression can also stem from unmet strong beliefs that go unnoticed or prolonged illness. Childhood experiences like physical abuse, bullying, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, witnessing violence, substance abuse in the household, serious health problems, parental separation or divorce, or household member imprisonment can contribute to the development of depression later in life. Women who have survived childhood sexual abuse are 20 times more likely, and men 14 times more likely, than others to consider suicide.

Factors such as economic austerity, social disadvantages, marginalization, gender, prejudice and discrimination, migration, climate change, and education can also contribute to depression. It is important to consider the role of genetics, brain chemicals, and stress reactions as well. A holistic approach that combines medical, psychological, and social aspects can be beneficial in treating depression. Recognizing and responding to distress rather than treating it solely as a disease can have a significant impact, along with practicing self-soothing techniques and seeking professional help.

ANXIETY

The WHO ICD-10 classifies anxiety as part of neurotic, stress-related, and somatoform disorders. Anxiety is primarily triggered by specific situations or objects external to the individual, which are not currently dangerous. As a result, these situations or objects are either avoided or endured with a sense of dread. Phobic anxiety is subjectively, physiologically, and behaviorally indistinguishable from other types, ranging from mild unease to intense terror. Symptoms include primary manifestations like palpitations and faintness, as well as secondary symptoms such as fear of dying, losing control, or going insane.

Anxiety encompasses a spectrum of conditions, including general or unspecified anxiety, panic or episodic anxiety, amnesia, fugue, stupor, obsessive-compulsive thoughts, depressive and obsessive symptoms, adjustment issues, PTSD, stress, fears, and phobias. The key characteristic is the presence of anxiety not limited to a particular environment, but rather free-floating. Symptoms can vary, with common manifestations including nervousness, trembling, muscle tension, sweating, lightheadedness, dizziness, and epigastric discomfort. Worries and forebodings, including fears of personal or familial illness or accidents, are also prevalent. Anxiety is more common in women and often associated with chronic environmental stress. Its course is variable, characterized by fluctuations and potentially chronic duration.

Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy is widely recognized as an effective treatment approach for anxiety. It involves a systematic step-by-step process to alleviate symptoms. Depending on the severity, exposure therapy may also be utilized. In some cases, medication may be necessary. Hypnotherapy offers another effective avenue for addressing anxiety by targeting the underlying causes through subconscious suggestions. Emotional management techniques and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) techniques are also helpful in conjunction with Hypnotherapy. Additionally, hypnotherapy techniques can be employed to address examination anxiety in children at a subconscious level, providing effective resolution.

PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES

Psychological disorders can arise from biological factors (such as genetics or brain structure), psychological factors (including thinking patterns and responses to stress like maternal health), or socio-cultural factors (such as poverty, unemployment, cultural expectations, and abuse). Some of the disorders that can be addressed include Autism, Attention Deficit Disorder, Eating Disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, fears and phobias, headaches, mood disorders, anxiety, PTSD, depression, sleep issues, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Social Phobia, Examination Phobia, Childhood Trauma, Anger Issues (addressed through social skills training), and Stroke.

Therapeutic techniques such as Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy, Regression Therapy, and Sound Healing protocols have shown effectiveness in treating these cases.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

Pain might stand for ‘pay attention inwards.’ Pain management can involve various approaches, including physical therapies such as sound healing, rhythmic relaxation techniques, meditation, and exercise; emotional management techniques like hypnotherapy , psychotherapy and psychological therapies such as psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and regression therapy. Effective pain management can reduce stress, blood pressure, heart rate and positively impact the healing process. Non-verbal symptoms of pain may include a tense body, restlessness, strained facial expressions, tearfulness, resistance to movement, increased breathing or shortness of breath.

Chronic pain can significantly impact quality of life and lead to various health issues, including psychological disorders, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. Acute pain can result from injuries, muscle overuse or environmental stressors like surgery or trauma. Therapeutic pain management involves a combination of psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, sound healing using Himalayan singing bowls, and subconscious mind work through hypnotherapy and regression therapy.

Conditions such as migraines, headaches, back pain, frozen shoulder, grief management, relationship issues, depression and pain related to cancer and its treatments have been successfully addressed using techniques like psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, hypnotherapy, hypno-oncology, sound healing and regression therapy.

FEARS & PHOBIAS

Fear is a natural response to a threat, whereas a phobia is an intense fear reaction even when there is no immediate danger. Fear serves a vital purpose in survival and is triggered by real threats, such as fear of darkness, flying or wild animals. On the other hand, a phobia impairs normal functioning and arises from perceived threats, resulting in persistent rumination and debilitation. Examples include claustrophobia, acrophobia, hemophobia, arachnophobia, cynophobia, and aquaphobia. Symptoms can include anxiety, panic, palpitations, sweating, shivering, and nightmares.

Fears and phobias can be effectively treated through various therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, hypnotherapy, emotional management techniques, NLP or Transpersonal regression therapy. Additionally, techniques involving crystals and working with angels can aid in fear control.

HABITS & ADDICTIONS

Under Hypnotherapy, we address various issues such as nail biting, tardiness, weight management, study habits, and smoking. Screen addictions, alcohol addiction, and addiction to pornography have also been successfully treated using a protocol involving hypnosis, counseling, and sound healing.

SLEEP ISSUES

The quality of sleep is directly linked to the quality of life. Insomnia, or the lack of sleep, is a prevalent symptom in various cases, including hypertension, gut issues, fears, or stress. Regardless of the underlying cause, the impact of insufficient sleep can significantly affect overall well-being and functionality. Hypnotherapy and sound healing have proven to be highly effective in addressing sleep-related issues at a profound level. Counseling techniques and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) are also beneficial in this regard.

ALLERGIES

In the case of allergies, the allergen can either be known or unknown. The specific allergen can be identified during an intake session, allowing for tailored treatment. Hypnotherapy is highly effective in both scenarios, utilizing techniques such as EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), Inner Child work, and Ego states work, followed by NLP techniques. Hypnosis has shown success in addressing common cases like lactose intolerance and skin allergies such as Psoriasis and Vitiligo.
